Identify your goals!
Most people have similar reasons for wanting to engage the services of a personal trainer. But there are variations on the theme so it’s worth taking time to consider what really motivates you, and what you want to achieve. Take a look at the following list and try putting the benefits in order of importance to you. There may be other objectives that you can add to your list. The information will help a personal trainer identify your goals and work out the best way to achieve them.
I want to:
Feel fitter
Be stronger
Look better
Live longer
Have more energy
Make lifestyle changes
Run a marathon
Build certain muscles
Lose weight
Change my shape
Your trainer will use their skills and experience to build a programme in consultation with you. Don’t agree the programme until you are sure you can manage it; then do your best to stick to it. The fact that you are paying for their services might provide you with that bit of extra motivation! And one of the best things about having a personal trainer is that when you exercise under their supervision, they will make sure your technique is perfect so that you get the full benefit of the exercise, every time. Remember, though, that no trainer can absolutely guarantee improvements because it’s a partnership and you will have to keep your side of the bargain!
